December: The Arrival of Winter
Snowfall usually starts in high-altitude areas like Gulmarg and Sonamarg by mid-December. Srinagar receives mild snow towards the end of the month, making it a great time for Christmas holidays.
January: Peak Snowfall Season
January is the coldest month, with temperature dropping below freezing. This is the best time for deep snow in Gulmarg, when the Gondola phase 1 and 2 are fully covered in thick snow. Live snowfall is highly common.
February: Ideal for Skiing
By February, the snow packs down, creating perfect conditions for skiing and snowboarding events in Gulmarg. Roads are mostly cleared, making local travel easier than in January.
