Gulmarg in winter is a global hotspot for winter sports. Known for its powdery snow, it attracts skiers from around the world. But even if you are not a professional skier, Gulmarg has plenty to offer. Here is your winter guide.
The Gulmarg Gondola Experience
The Gondola is one of the highest cable cars in the world. Phase 1 takes you to Kungdoor at 2,600m, and Phase 2 takes you to Apharwat Peak at 3,747m. Always book Phase 2 tickets online well in advance, as they sell out weeks ahead.
Skiing for Beginners
You can hire local certified ski instructors for 1-day or 3-day basic courses. Equipment like skis, boots, and poles are easily available for rent at reasonable rates near the slopes.
Warm Clothing Requirements
Temperatures can drop to -10°C. You will need high-quality thermal innerwear, fleece layers, waterproof down jackets, gloves, and snow boots (which can also be rented locally in Tangmarg).
