Preparing for the Chardham Yatra (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath) requires careful packing. The weather in high altitudes is highly unpredictable, shifting from sunny afternoons to freezing rain within minutes. Here is your essential checklist.
1. Layered Winter Clothing
Instead of carrying one heavy coat, carry multiple thin layers. Bring high-quality thermals, sweaters, a windproof and waterproof jacket, woolen socks, and gloves. Heavy woolens are essential for night stays in Kedarnath.
2. Proper Trekking Footwear
You will walk long distances on stone paths. Wear sturdy trekking shoes with excellent grip. Do not wear new shoes on the trip; break them in at least two weeks before the yatra to avoid painful blisters.
3. Medical First-Aid Kit
Carry your regular prescription medicines along with tablets for altitude sickness, motion sickness, painkillers, band-aids, muscle-relaxant sprays (like Volini), and digestive pills.
